TIMBER FURNITURE CARE INSTRUCTIONS
Every item at Natural Edge Furniture is handcrafted from sustainably sourced and recycled timber to save it from being turned into woodchip, firewood or other waste.
We take great pride in our work and hope to see it age well for generations to come.
To maximise the life and natural beauty of your furniture, please follow these guidelines:
- Avoid placing abrasive items directly on your furniture and always place a protective pad, place mat or coaster under hot items, dishes, teapots, saucepans, pizza boxes, glasses etc.
- Timber should not be placed on wet or damp surfaces, exposed to direct sunlight or to extreme heat. Extremes in temperature and humidity fluctuation due to heaters, fireplaces and air-conditioners can contribute to an unnatural decline in the timbers moisture content and can affect the life and look of your furniture causing it to move, split, or warp.
- Spills should be wiped off immediately with a non-abrasive cloth. Our finishes are water resistant, but are not capable of dealing with excessive amounts of moisture for prolonged periods. Spilled liquids can seep through the finish and cause discoloration, blistering, swelling, or in extreme cases, irreparable damage to the timber if exposed to excessive amounts of liquid.
- Every 6-12 months we recommend giving the timber a light application of bee’s wax. Waxing helps protect against splitting and warping as well as nourishing the timber and beautifying it naturally.
- Avoid covering your furniture for prolonged periods of time as moisture can collect under the covering and cause damage to your furniture.
- Place your furniture on a level surface to prevent any unnecessary stress on the timber or joinery.
- Always lift your furniture when moving it, as dragging it could cause unnecessary stress and may damage the legs or joints.
- Please avoid any contact between your furniture and nail polish, acetone, methylated spirits, pens, markers, alcohol, paints, oils, glues and any cleaning products or liquids containing silicone.
